Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the wattage and amp draw on each setting of the True North Heater?

The wattage and amp draw for each setting is as follows;

Low – 600 W

MED – 900 W

HI – 1500 W

The snowflake setting on the True North heater can be used on each fan setting (Hi, Med, Low) and would use the same amps. The anti-freeze setting is a separate operation. When turned to the anti-freeze snowflake on the thermostat control knob, you can turn the fan to any setting you choose.

When used on the first setting, the air temperature will take longer to rise and become warm enough for the heater to shut off.

2. How many SaftiHeat units can be connected together?

SaftiHeat is equipped with a branch circuit. The branch circuit allows additional SaftiHeat heaters to be plugged in series (up to a maximum of 5 units) or another product requiring less than 10 amperes of current draw.

3. Does SaftiHeat come with overheat protection?

SaftiHeat's two-stage overheat protection is comprised of an automatic reset thermostat and a one-time thermal fuse. If the automatic reset thermostat fails to regulate the radiated heat, the one-time thermal fuse will permanently cut power to the unit to prevent any fire hazards.

4. How long is the warranty period for the SaftiHeat?

6. How long is the power cord on each SaftiHeat unit?

Each SaftiHeat unit comes with a 6-foot grounded cord.

7. Why is there a discrepancy between the ambient room temperature and the temperature of the True North Heater?

The thermostat is specific to the internal temperature of the heater, not the actual heating area. Therefore, the temperature of the room and the temperature where the heater is placed could be two different temperatures.

8. How long is the power cord on the True North Heater?

The True North heater is equipped with a 6-foot power cord.

9. Does the True North Heater have an overheat protector?

The 9206 True North heater has two separate overheat protectors/fuses that will safely shut the heater down if it overheats. The first fuse is resettable; as when it senses, the heater is starting to overheat, it will activate and shut the heater down. This fuse can be reset by unplugging the heater for ten minutes and plugging the unit back in.

The second fuse is a "one-time" fuse, which will sense if the heat is significantly overheating. If this were to occur, this fuse will activate and permanently shut down the heater. This fuse cannot be reset, and the heater must be replaced.

10. Do you offer internal replacement parts for the True North Heater?

Due to CSA (Canadian Standards Association) and UL (Underwriter's Laboratories) safety regulations and compliances, we cannot provide internal replacement parts for our AC corded products, nor can we authorize any self-repairs.

11. Can the True North Heater be used in a greenhouse?

A True North space heater should not be used if the greenhouse is damp or humid. The heater must be operated and maintained as detailed in the owner's manual. It must be kept dry and used only indoors. This heater was designed for home use in bedrooms, living rooms and recreation rooms. It was not designed for damp environments. If the greenhouse is fully enclosed and dry, and the heater can be operated as indicated in the owner's manual, then it is safe to do so. If there is any doubt, then the heater should not be used.

18. Can I mount the True North Heater upside down on the ceiling for use as a window defroster?

No, this application is not suitable. The heater must be used in the upright position and has not been designed or tested to be used upside down. Inappropriate use of the heater could create a safety risk.

20. My MediHeat Calf Hutch Electric Heater is not functioning as it should. Can I purchase replacement parts?

While Caframo warranties its MediHeat Calf Hutch Electric Heater for one year, we do not sell internal replacement parts. This is necessary to maintain the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) product qualification listing for this product. Every time an AC electrical unit is opened, it must be properly closed and tested for safety. We also do not offer repair services, nor can we authorize self-repairs. If this heater is not functioning correctly, please no longer use it.

24. How do I change the battery on the Tiny Tornado Fan?

To change the battery on the Tiny Tornado, please twist the plastic sleeve to remove it. Then, open the battery compartment and replace the battery with a fresh D-cell battery.

25. How long will my Tiny Tornado Fan run on the same battery?

This unit runs on a single D-cell battery, so operating time will vary with the battery being used. With a Rayovac battery, which is rated for 16AHr, the unit should operate for 16 hours. However, the fan will slow down during the 16 hours of use.

If the fan is used with NiCad (rechargeable battery), the operating time on a single charge would be approximately 4 hours.

26. How do I change the blade on my 707 Chinook Fan?

To replace the fan blade on the 707 Chinook, please gently pull the old blade from the motor shaft of the fan. Then, gently push the new blade onto the motor shaft, leaving a small space between the fan and the motor housing.

27. I need a new replacement blade for my 707 Chinook Fan. Which one do I need?

Replacement blades are available to purchase for specific models of the 707 Chinook Fan, and it all depends on the power switch.

If you require a blade and the fan has a rocker switch or a round variable speed turn knob, our current 707 blades will fit.

If you require a blade and the fan has a round, push button switch – we no longer manufacture replacement blades for this model, as the motor shaft is larger than the current motor shaft used.

If you require a blade for an older 707 Chinook Fan, which features a chrome/metal U- shaped stand attached to a suction cup, our 747/757 blades will fit.

28. What is the 707 Chinook Model Fan made from?

The housing of the unit is made from fire-resistant ABS plastic, and the blade is made from polyethylene.

29. Can the 707 Chinook Fan be operated with a rheostat to control the fan’s speed?

No, the fan should not be used with a rheostat (light dimmers), which will cause the motor to overheat. This is a safety issue, and we do not recommend making any product alterations.

30. Can you use the model 707 Chinook Fan in Europe?

Yes, you can! North America uses 60 HZ while Europe uses 50 HZ. The 707 Chinook Fan will work in Europe but will spin much slower.
